What is Radiofrequency Ablation of the Greater Saphenous Vein?
(VNUS CLOSURE)
VNUS closure is a minimally invasive procedure which has replaced traditional vein stripping. The goal of both procedures is to eliminate the diseased saphenous vein (the vein that runs on the inside of the leg) from the venous circulation. Vein stripping involves surgical removal of the saphenous vein in the operating room under general anesthesia. Following surgery there can be significant bruising and pain. VNUS Closure n the other hand, can be performed in the office under local anesthetic. VNUS Closure involves introducing a catheter into the vein. an electrode at the tip of the catheter gently heats the vein wall causing the vein to close down. Pain and bruising following Closure is minimal.
